Play in natural settings is integral to healthy childhood development. Early play-based experiences in nature develops the imagination, improves cognitive abilities, enhances physical literacy and reduces stress. Drawing on personal experiences and stories from delivering programs through Nature's Tracks Forest Play, we'll explore how to consciously build a culture that builds a connection to nature, self and others through play and sensory immersion experiences in natural spaces. Fostering these connections helps children (and adults) feel happy, hopeful and inspired.  Those who provide play-based programs for children have an incredible opportunity to build a culture that allows for play based experiences and learning and the conscious development of connection. At Forest Play, connection is the “why” of our play-based experiences. There are routines that build a deep connection to nature and if we build these into our programs, connection grows. When connection is strong, it will extend well beyond the time the children are with us and their relationship with nature will help them discover what their gifts are and how to share them with their communities.
