Outdoor Play in Childcare Settings - Supporting System Change

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Over 100,000 children attend licensed child care in Alberta. Ensuring child care programs have engaging outdoor spaces, abundant outdoor time and inspired educators will go a long way to getting more children outdoors to play. Outdoor play in these settings can be limiting with small outdoor spaces furnished with plastic and rubber and little opportunity for children to engage with nature. Get Outside and Play will profile two projects that have the goal of increasing outdoor play in all licensed childcare settings. The first project makes recommendations to change the licensing regulations to support more outdoor play and the second are 5 experience guides created in collaboration with licensing, health and accreditation. During this session we will explore these two projects, ask for your feedback and consider how we can work together to implement these suggested changes
